Description

About

The Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies (ToRS) at the University of Copenhagen  conducts research into language, culture, religion, and society, focusing primarily on regions outside Western Europe and the USA. In a globalized world, cross-cultural competencies and an understanding of the world’s vast diversity are essential—both socially and culturally. ToRS' mission is to offer insights into this diversity. Its research and teaching delve into the social and cultural hotspots of the 21st century, drawing upon cultural heritage and historical perspectives that extend back to the era of hunter-gatherer communities, the earliest urban societies, and the development of the first ancient civilizations in the Middle East, Asia, and Central and South America. Understanding our current era is contingent upon an appreciation of our cultural heritage. ToRS’ primary goal is to enhance the knowledge society by enriching our understanding of cultural history, religious issues, and social relationships in a world where regions are simultaneously interconnected and distant. Through its research, communication, and education efforts, ToRS aims to enlighten society about both itself and others."
