Description

About

The International Poverty Reduction Centre in China (IPRCC) was jointly initiated and established by the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in May 2005. IPRCC’s mission is to provide an international platform for knowledge sharing, information exchange and international collaboration in the areas of poverty reduction and development. The Center’s work is focused on four key areas: research, exchange, training and cooperation. All of these areas aim to optimize poverty reduction policies and strategies through an intensive research program, facilitating and strengthening international exchange and collaboration by organizing a wide range of training and capacity building activities, and promoting knowledge sharing and South-South learning. The Center’s overall goal is to enhance the poverty reduction process and to contribute to worldwide poverty reduction.

The Global Poverty Reduction and Inclusive Growth (GPIG) Portal is a knowledge platform specialized in sharing policy research, data, country profiles and news on poverty reduction and inclusive growth. In support to the activities of the International Poverty Reduction Centre in China, the GPIG portal hosts, organizes, manages and delivers online and offline events to promote international cooperation and capacity building activities to contribute to the successful achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); in particular, SDG1 (no poverty), SDG2 (zero hunger), SDG10 (reduced inequalities) and SDG17 (partnerships for the goals). The GPIG portal also aims to support the efforts of the Government of the People’s Republic of China to achieve the end of poverty by 2020, 10 years ahead of the international target, by lifting the remaining 43 million rural poor out of poverty.

The GPIG portal was originally initiated by the World Bank and supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). It is co-hosted and co-managed by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC) and the China Internet Information Center (CIIC). Since its official launch on May 8, 2016, during the 2016 China International Forum on Poverty Reduction, the portal has built a network of over 40 international policy research institutes, think tanks, universities and organizations that pursue research and deliver poverty reduction solutions for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda. Since its establishment, GPIG has produced over 3,000 articles, technical notes and country profiles. The GPIG Portal now aims at further strengthening its network of contributing institutions and individual experts and at promoting more opportunities for international cooperation, capacity building and knowledge sharing on poverty reduction online and offline.
